I didn’t expect to see Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi of Jersey Shore fame doing political ads via Cameo for John Fetterman’s Pennsylvania Senate campaign, but, to be honest, that’s on me. This is how politics works now. Like, Fetterman is running against TV’s Dr. Mehmet Oz (who has the endorsement of that other giant of reality television, former president Donald Trump). Anyway, one of the points that Fetterman’s campaign has been hitting against Oz is the fact that, despite running for office in Pennsylvania, Oz’s primary residence appears to be in New Jersey. So who better to call than Jersey’s most colorful resident, Snooki?
In the Cameo, which Fetterman posted to Twitter, Snooki puts on her best ditzy guidette persona to wish Oz good luck on his new job from one Jersey resident to another. “Hey, Mehmet! This is Nicole ‘Snooki’ and I’m from Jersey Shore,” she says. “I’m a hot mess on a reality show, basically.”
The clip continues, “But I heard that you moved from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to look for a new job. And personally, I don’t know why anyone would wanna leave Jersey ’cause it’s, like, the best place ever and we’re all hot messes. But I wanna say, Best of luck to you. I know you’re away from home and you’re in a new place but Jersey will not forget you, I just wanna let you know. I will not forget you. And don’t worry! You’ll be back home in Jersey soon, this is only temporary.”
According to Cameo, it costs $3,500 for a personalized business video from Polizzi, which, based on how quickly Fetterman’s tweet is going viral, seems like it was worth every penny. Internet troll is basically Fetterman’s entire messaging strategy. His campaign has also flown a banner reading, “Hey Dr. Oz, welcome home to NJ,” posted the Arrested Development “It’s one banana” meme, and sells “Dr. Oz for NJ” bumper stickers. Quote-tweeting a Daily Beast article headlined, “Could John Fetterman Shitpost His Way to the Senate,” he wrote, “I mean we sure are trying.”
