The Focal Point of Louis Vuitton’s New Diamonds Collection is the LV Monogram Star, a Brand-New Cut

There are few symbols as ineffable and timeless as Louis Vutton’s house monogram. For the new collection of LV Diamonds, Francesca Amfitheatrof, the artistic director of watches and jewelry for the French luxury giant, sought inspiration from them, inventing a unique diamond cut in the process. “Not since Madame de Pompadour has a new diamond cut been invented that is so exciting,” Amfitheatrof explained via email. “The marquise cut dates back to the 18th century, when King Louis XV of France commissioned a jeweler to design a shape that resembled the lips of his mistress. And now we have the LV cut fashioned and inspired by our monogram.”

The LV Monogram star, rendered after the monogram flower—itself a symbol of eternity—takes center stage in a collection of rings, unisex bands, earrings, and pendants, in platinum, rose gold, and half-pavé, and is instantly recognizable by its 53 facets with pointed ends. “I designed a basket with a hidden flower for the solitaires,” Amfitheatrof explains of the way she turned the monogram flower into a bezel. There are also pieces inspired by Vuitton’s classic Damier design, like very cool stackable and V-shaped (naturellement) bands, which the artistic director describes as “more modern.”
